Storm Prep Sunday

Know the Difference, Be Prepared:

Hurricanes!

Category 1 VS Category 2–

Hey Neighbor,

Not all hurricanes are created equal; but every storm deserves your attention.

Category 1 Hurricane

Winds: 74–95 mph

  • Some damage to roofs, siding, and trees
  • Power outages possible
  • Coastal flooding, lagoon overflow, and minor storm surge expected

What You Should Do:

  • Stay informed with official updates
  • Review your emergency and evacuation plan
  • Prepare for wind, rain, and power loss

Category 2 Hurricane

Winds: 96–110 mph

  • Extensive damage to homes and trees
  • Widespread power outages likely
  • Dangerous storm surge and flooding possible

What You Should Do:

  • Finalize preparations and secure your property
  • Be ready to evacuate if advised
  • Stay off the roads and indoors during the storm

Even a "low category" hurricane can be life-changing. Don’t underestimate it.
Preparedness starts before the storm arrives.

Stay alert and stay safe

1 vs 2 hurricane

Don’t Get Caught Off Guard!

What to watch for AFTER a Category 1 or 2 Hurricane

Just because the storm has passed doesn’t mean the danger is over

Power Outages:
Downed lines and damaged infrastructure can leave you without power for days. Be cautious when using generators.

Flooding:
Storm surge and rainfall can cause rising water even after skies clear. Never drive through flooded roads.

Debris Hazards:
Broken trees, power poles, and scattered debris can block roads and hide dangers like downed wires.

Infrastructure Damage:
Bridges, roads, and water systems may be unsafe or closed. Follow official guidance and avoid restricted areas.

Health Risks:
Standing water can breed mosquitoes and spread disease. Be sure to dump water from containers and wear repellent.

Stay Alert:
Follow local emergency updates. Secondary weather systems or additional flooding may occur in the days that follow.
