Hey there neighbor,

It's that time of year again, school buses are rolling, the crosswalks are busy, and drivers need to keep those eyes sharp. 

School starts Monday. You are going to see the kids out making their way to school. When on the road keep safety as a top priority, whether it's looking for bicycles, pedestrians, and school bus stops you have a part to play.

Sharing the Roads

Bike and Scooter (etc..) Safety

Let's make sure we're ready to be safe when riding toward school:

• Wear a helmet. Make sure that the helmet fits correctly, visit Space Coast TPO for tips on the right fit.
• Ride on the sidewalk.
• Wear bright colors and use your bike lights, especially while riding at night or early in the morning.
• Obey the rules of the road.

School Bus Safety

We're sharing the road with school buses again. Let's take a few moments to refresh our "Rules of the Road" while traveling with school buses. 

• Two-lane road (no median): All cars in both directions must stop.
• Multi-lane road with NO raised median: All lanes in both directions stop.
• Divided highway with a raised median or unpaved space of at least 5 feet:
  • Only the traffic going the same direction as the bus stops.
  • The opposite side can keep going carefully.

Pro tip: Keep out an extra sharp eye and put down those distractions.
