CBNN Centennial

Hey Neighbor,

In staying ready and staying prepared, it's important that you know the messaging you will see from the City before, during and after storms. Staying prepared also means staying informed.

We've got some examples below of what you might see during a storm from us on Facebook, X (formally known as Twitter), CBNN, and on our website.

 Example: Public Safety Update

– Not an Active Alert

(This is a sample message showing what to expect during a real emergency update.)

In the event of a major storm, the City of Cocoa Beach may issue updates like this to keep residents informed:

Emergency Operations Activated

The City has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC). City Hall and administrative offices may close during the storm for safety reasons.

Public Safety Services

Police, Fire, and emergency crews remain on duty but may suspend response if winds reach dangerous levels:

  • Fire & Police pause responses at 55 mph sustained winds

  • Ambulance services limit responses at 35 mph, and fully pause at 45 mph sustained winds. Crews will resume service when it’s safe, prioritizing the most urgent needs first.

Water Conservation Reminder

Storms can impact our wastewater system. During high water levels, residents may be asked to limit water use (e.g., no laundry or dishwashing) to avoid system overloads.

Trash Collection Suspensions

Trash and recycling pickups could be suspended during storm days. Residents will be advised to secure bins and carts away from the street.

Sandbag Availability

City sandbag sites may close once supplies run out. Topsoil or mulch bags are good alternatives and may be available at local hardware stores.

Flooding Expected

Heavy rainfall and high water tables can cause localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Watch storm drains to ensure debris is not covering the drains.

It is important to note: River levels may continue to rise even after the storm passes.

Stay Informed

Updates will be posted regularly on the City’s website and official social media channels.

This is only an example.

In a real event, please monitor official communications for accurate and current information.
