June 5th marked a major milestone, 100 years of sun, surf, and beach town charm in this paradise we call home. From the moon race to surfing the waves, Cocoa beach has seen a century of growth and good vibes!

McNabb Bioretention Update

The City has wrapped up the construction of the McNabb Bioretention Areas located at the stub ends of Capri Rd and Naish Avenue. Stay tuned over the next serval months as University of Florida monitors the project.

What is a bioretention area: A bioretention area collects stormwater runoff to treat the runoff, filter pollutants and reduce runoff volume into the Banana River Lagoon. There is bioactivated media (BAM) added to the soil and native vegetation planted to further filter the runoff as it infiltrates into the ground. The plants selected can handle temporary flooding and periods of drought, which were Fakahatchee Grass, Pink Muhly Grass and Spider Lily. 

This project has been made possible through our funding partners: Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Save Our Indian River Lagoon Program.

FPL Tree Trimming

In the next few weeks FPL and their contractor, Asplundh Tree Expert, will be trimming trees and vegetation around Cocoa Beach as part of their routine maintenance to prevent outages, because storm prep starts with tree trimming! Questions? Call 321-455-6135
